Citizens aged 15 and older are eligible to vote in 4,500 circuits covering around 49,000 community councils.
On Sunday, Venezuelans are enthusiastically participating in the Second Popular Consultation, through which they will prioritize local development projects for their communities.
“We are happy with this event because it will directly benefit families. We are deciding our own future,” said Mario Castro, spokesperson for the Xulia Commune, as reported by Venezolana de Television.
“The problems of the communities are solved from the ground up. That’s why we urge everyone to participate in this second consultation. We need to vote because complaining doesn’t solve anything.
We solve problems by contributing and working,” said Doris Silva, a resident of Carabobo state.
“Despite the rain, the people are voting! All the community councils understand that this is the way to solve our problems,” said Carlos Osorio, a citizen who came to vote at the Alí Primera center in Aragua state.
In the second popular consultation being held in 2024, citizens aged 15 and older are eligible to vote and choose local development projects in 4,500 circuits covering around 49,000 community councils.
Earlier, Venezuelan authorities authorized over 100 international observers to accompany the voting process nationwide. They will be able to see how the People’s Power organization prioritizes public works that the people believe will have the greatest impact on their communities.
Previously, Jorge Arreaza, the vice president of Communal Councils and Communes of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), said that the Second National Popular Consultation exemplifies the construction of a new form of governance based on direct democracy.
